The top football museums in Europe have been ranked in popularity
One museum in Greater Manchester has ranked in the top ten most popular football museums in Europe.
The National Football Museum has come out as the ninth best football museum in the whole of Europe, beating Germany’s Football museum but coming behind Benfica Museum in Portugal.
Located near Manchester’s Victoria station, the National Football Museum has revealed its latest annual visitor figures have improved by 19 per cent year on year, and Live Football Tickets reported a 40 per cent rise in Google search interest over the past 30 days.
Live Football Tickets analysed customer reviews on TripAdvisor and the cost of admission for football museums across Europe to rank the best museums for football fans. They found that 83 per cent of visitors to Manchester’s National Football Museum rated the experience four or more stars.
Winning the title of best football museum in Europe is the Greek Football Museum in Chania, Greece, with a score of 9.7/10. Of the 1,013 reviews, a huge 95 per cent of those rate the experience five stars.
With over 1,000 objects, the museum features everything from World Cup footballs to official shirts from Euro games. The museum is also a favourite with fans due to its £0 entry fee, one of only two football museums in Europe offering free entry.
The second-best football museum in Europe is the Red Star Museum in Belgrade, Serbia. Opening in 1985, fans have enjoyed the club’s unique history and 680 objects on display. Offering a below-average entry price and positive reviews, the museum scores 8.5 out of 10.
Glaswegians can enjoy the third-best-rated experience in the continent with an overall score of 8.4 out of 10. Costing just £8 per person, the Scottish Football Museum is one of the most affordable in Europe, alongside being the second-highest rated on Trip Advisor at 4.78 out of 5.
Adding to its appeal, the Scottish Football Museum was awarded £51,914 for a partnership to explore the strong links between football and mining in Scotland, bringing fresh perspectives and new exhibits to the museum.
The National Football Museum in Manchester sneaks inside the 10 with an overall score of 6.9 out of 10. 83 per cent of guests rated it four stars or more, giving it an average Trip Advisor score of 4.26. However, its expensive (£14) entry price pulls it down the rankings slightly.
